Differences Between a Doula and a Labour Coach?
How are the roles of a labour coach and a doula different? A labour coach is a facilitator who works with a pregnant women and her partner in advance of labour. With guidance and hands on teaching, your partner will learn how to be more helpful to you during labour. Labour coaching is a great way to strengthen your bond before, during and after birth.
A doula will support the labouring woman and usually guides the birth partner’s care. Even if enlisting doula services, it is beneficial to receive labour coaching prior to giving birth. Both practice and knowledge helps the birth partner feel more involved and confident in their role during labour.
In Calgary, doulas are in high demand and it may be difficult to secure one. With the benefit of labour coaching, couples may feel more prepared to handle labour without a doula.
